Orsa Bear Park celebrates 25th Anniversary
The first to move in were the brown bears. 25 years later there are polar bears, brown bears, tigers, leopards and other animals. This summer the Orsa Bear Park celebrates its 25th Anniversary with various events.
The Bear Park will be celebrating all summer long with extra festivities on June 2. - A big party. Among other events, all animals will receive a form of cake. The wolverines, who like sausage, will get a sausage pie and the polar bear a salmon cake", says Pernilla Thalin, Park Manager. The anniversary is also recognized with a release of a book that depicts the parks 25-year history. The author is Anders Bjorklund, who normally is the head of the Carnivore Center/ Wood Design Center. - We have already started selling the book and it is a real success. This summer, we will have an exhibition at the Predators in the center and displays images from the book on large canvas.
There will also be two photo contests, one best animal photo and a best park photo.
An experience for all
The park, in addition to the Nordic predators, brown bears, wolves, lynx and wolverine, even have Kamchatka bears, our peaceful giants, powerful cats in the form of both the Siberian tiger, Persian leopards and snow leaopard. Polar World has become a world-renowned facility with polar bears Ewa and Wilber.
- This summer, we hope for many young with the leopards, tigers and lynx. A real Cat Summer, says Pernilla Thalin, Park Manager.
The Bear Park has something for everyone, for all ages, there is something to do all day. Many want to know how we work with the animals and to learn more about the animals. The best way is to attend the feeding of the animals or to listen to any of the information sessions on Tiger Mountain and Polar World. You will most certainly receive some extra knowledge and an experience to take home", says Pernilla. For the little ones, there are many fun play and learn stations in the park, here you can, for example, try to jump as high or as far as our animals.
Many have dreamt of working in the zoo, the children's Predators School lets you test this out. The Predators School runs two days a week. You can also join a tour with a real bear researcher or on a family tour where the focus is on the kids. The tour is on the guest’s terms. We stop and look at what guests want to see, which can be anything from "guess the poop" to seeing where the bears sleep in winter", says Pernilla.
There are also guided tours with the prairie wagon Bear Express, where you can comfortably ride around in the park.
When hungry there is a large selection of food and refreshments to choice from in the park, or how about a Polar grill with hot dogs and hamburgers, the Bear Cabin with scrumptious waffles, Café Koppången - real coffee experience with pastries, light meals in a restaurant tent at Bear Square or big loads of ice slush at the Bear Shed!
Before you say goodnight to all the animals you may want your own teddy bear to hug and follow home. Our souvenir shops offer a large variety of both soft toys, clothes with our private label Big Bear and other souvenirs. The stores are well worth a visit! Take a memory home with you from the park!
